All too often, schools in India fail to provide students with in-depth skills in reading and math as well as inspiration and creativity in the arts. These school curricula leave significant gaps that are seldom bridged outside the classroom and put the already disadvantaged students even further behind. As such, ShivaMaya embarked on a quest to spark the imaginations of children all around Kolkata with the aim of motivating them to achieve their potential and their dreams.

Recently, ShivaMaya launched its flagship program, Project Durjaya, an initiative to help talented children from marginalized families with English language training, Personality Development skills, and to give them a platform to express and further explore their artistic aptitudes. ShivaMaya is committed towards making the lives of these little stars brighter and better so that they get the extra care that they require in order to realize their full potential. Our efforts are aimed at making these kids smarter and more confident in their daily interactions.

Project Durjaya is an ongoing effort. Our staff and volunteers have conducted classes and workshops throughout West Bengal on a regular basis, bringing out students to both learn and express themselves creatively. Our classes are conducted by dedicated volunteers, many with backgrounds in education.
